Every night, especially during the rainy season, my house fills with insects. Nasty insects that want to feed. What to do?
I live in a house surround by lots of grass, trees, creeks on each side and an empty lot at the back, where the cows come up to the fence to taunt my dogs.
No, I don’t live in the country, this is Piedades de Santa Ana, less than a 10 minute drive to Multiplaza and 30 minutes to Lindora, which is like half the way, but congestion at most times makes the trip to my favourite Automercado a nightmare. But I digress.
As night sets in, it’s time for me to take out the coffee. Not to make a cup of java, but to burn the ground beans. Yep, you read it right.
I burn the beans to rid my living and work area of flying insects. And it works.
I use a scoop (spoonful) of ground 100% coffee and light it up. I used to make a donut shaped circle, but I found a straight line mountain better.
I light the coffee, takes a few seconds to get the smouldering going and then gently blow to get the maximum smoke. After a few minutes, I let it burn to ashes.
I start with the living room and then my workspace, can’t forget under the desk. By the time I get to bed which can be around 3:00am most nights, there are no insects around.
This all works. I was skeptical at first, but after a few uses found it really, really works.
Any 100% ground coffee will do, the brand is not important, what is that it contains no sugar, hence the 100%. In my case, I use espresso coffee, the only coffee I ever have around the house. I tried once a brand with sugar and no dice.
Try this and you’ll enjoy hours free of insects!
