This question was posed on Quora. This one being the best answer:
It pains me to quote Simon Cowel, but it’s the X factor.
Regardless of how you want to avoid the phrase “hard work”, since you think it’s clichéd, what separates the men from the boys and the girls from the women is pretty simple.
Unsuccessful people make plans.
Successful people make reservations.
Successful people know when to “fold ’em” and then they understand when it’s time to walk away.
Unsuccessful people keep banging their heads against the wall, doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different outcome.
Successful people don’t live in fear. They may be afraid, but that doesn’t mean they let that fear paralyze them. They move ahead anyway.
Unsuccessful people let fear rule their lives. They’d rather remain mired in it than do something about it.
Successful people see something they want and they grab it.
Unsuccessful people see something they want and hesitate.
Of course the definition of success is a whole different question but I can tell you this, I’m leaving for France, and you know why?
I made reservations.
